Change Chat B to Help Chat?
Started By
How about changing Chat B into a Help chat.

Perhaps ask the Newbie Helpers to hang out in there as well if they're going to be in chat, just to keep an eye on it - that way if someone wants to ask a question in a chat setting, they can go there.

Personally, I LOVE the issue hub, and it's a great place for more in-depth issues that need to be discussed, but it seems more and more people are adverse to using it, saying it's "faster" or "less confusing" to just use the chat.
Having a (perhaps bolded and colored) link to a "HELP" chat would make a little bit of a difference - even if it's just a temporary trial period to see how that kind of thing works out for Ala.

I.. will say that I personally think people should just use the issue hub, but I don't think it could hurt to give the idea a chance and see if it works.

I agree with Ravyn. The longest I've had an issue go unhandled in the Issue Hub was about 1 day.

No support. As a former NH, I can recall when the Issue Hub was first instated, and it was really great. Questions didn't flood chat quite as much, and the user always got an answer, and one on one help, without the NH fearing that they'd take too long to type out an answer, and the user would lose interest in chat, or that they'd get buried amidst all of the usual chatter. The issue hub is super efficient, and I don't see any reason why we should have another chat. If the chat wasn't defaulted, then we'd have to go through the whole instruction process to switch chats, where a NH would then have to hop over to deal with that user. This time could easily be used to direct them to the issue hub, where they'd get access to every NH online then, what with the notice on our screens -- not just the ones focusing on chat. Even if it were defaulted, we'd still have to spread the Newbie Helper team out among two chats as opposed to just one.

Sorry for rambly-ness. I'll look at it again when I'm not so tired.

I remember when I was a newbie on the game and I always asked questions where there were people interacting. I always figured that one of them was bound to know and answer. If no one was talking in a chat I'd feel like no one was actually there to help. I already see sometimes that mods have to remember to be in chat B to watch that as well.

There are times when there are a ton of people asking questions and only one or two NH will be on at once. I had that happen with five or so new players coming in to chat. I'm not sure how much the help chat would divert people. If they already don't go to the hub then I'm not sure if they'd go to the help chat.

I barely see issues in the hub as it is. Everybody usually runs and nabs all of the issues and I haven't see one sitting for more than a few minutes and we've got numerous compliments of being quick. Part of what makes the hub useful is that we can give one on one help without other people interfering and possibly confusing someone. We are also able to give a long response that we don't have to worry about being buried. Not only that but the hub saves the messages so that player can go back and look at their old issues if they forget =)

I think that more people should be directed to the hub than to a different chat. I wouldn't be totally against seeing this being tried out for some time like Pomp said. I just question how successful it would be. =)

TL;DR- Not sure it would be successful but wouldn't mind it being tried out for awhile =)

I agree with pom. As a helper, I knew that an issue would always be taken care of quickly. We **Never** let an issue go for a few minutes without some sort of notifying the user who asked.

Think about all the "I thought this was sales chat" posts we get that spam the main chat. Just change that to "helper chat" and we have our issue already. :/

I'm not so sure about this... It's hard enough for me to keep up with main chat (moves so fast it makes me dizzy o.o) - the idea of adding a whole new chat that I have to keep open in addition to main chat is just frightening. Even if I'm told I don't have to be in both at once, I would have to. If I was in main chat and someone came in saying "No NHs are in Helper Chat!!", I'd feel guilty. If I was in Helper Chat and popped back to main for a minute only to be greeted with "Why weren't you here when someone was asking blahblahblah???", I'd feel stretched too thin.

As it is now, I check the hub as soon as I get on and as soon as I refresh a page. The longest wait-time is usually only a few minutes (at least, when I'm online...). Usually it's a race between the helpers: "Who can claim it first?"

Pom also brought up a good point - if no one's chatting in Helper Chat, why would newbies post their questions there? It would look like an abandoned chat room and they'd probably migrate back over to Chat A...

But what I was saying with the drop down selection of a help chat bounces back to the main chatroom a lot. So the issues a lot of the time would end up going in main chat anyways.

Newbie Helpers are usually quick response issues. If they aren't its because of an awkward hour or its a question that someone doesn't know. So if anything they are only waiting a minute or two which is sometimes what they have to wait for a response in chat.

Support. It's not hard to tell a newbie, "use the drop-down below the chat to switch to Help Chat."

That, and some problems are so confusing to new people that a long wait can be a bit of an issue. I see no problem with just adding a new chat. And if it really is a hassle to just peek into an extra chat, then I don't see why just answering quickly in main chat is any sort of issue.

The chat can be a good resource beyond just chatting with friends. I definitely agree with the no advertisements rule, but it would be ridiculous to add more limitations to what you can and can't say in main chat.

It would be great to have the newbies set to help chat for the first while. I can understand doing that.

I'll also agree that the issue hub should just be the main place they go though.

I don't really support.

I like the idea, but.. if you think about it like this for a min..
Users will no longer use the Issue Hub, they will want to use the faster choice. If they do not get an immediate reply, they will spam and flip out. What if there are no Newbie Helpers awake/online/in Help Chat? Then we have people complaining that the Newbie Helpers aren't helping.
I say stick with Issue Hub. People need to learn a little patience.
What makes me laugh is when people complain that the Issue Hub takes too long [it DOESN'T.] when they could be spending that time waiting for a reply instead of wasting time complaining. :P

Let me make it clear that just like you guys, I think anyone with general gameplay questions should just go to the issue hub.

But the fact still stands that there are some, like earlier, who absolutely refuse to go there.

Perhaps in addition, make the automatic sidebar chat for new accounts be the help chat - that might assist in the dropdown and navigation issues.

08-23-2011 at 4:22 PM
I have to agree with pom. Some users still don't remember how to switch chats, and a newbie won't understand either.

The point of the issue hub was to keep quesions out of chat, to make it clearer.

I remember on black friday last year, I had to help newbies for 5 hours all on my own. All I got were questions thrown at my fface everywhere I turned. The issue hub keeps it clean and a helper can't see they didn't see the question. I KNOW you can see the issue hub alert on the side.

Sooo.. no support :/

08-23-2011 at 3:57 PM
The problem with that is that a lot of newbies don't know how to go to main chat by socialize>chat to be able to get into the Help Chat properly and be able to post if they are using side chat if the chatroom was actually there. You see the issues with sales chat when people try to use the sidebar chat to post an ad.

And like I had said in chat the newbies will go and ask where ever they see other users talking and they won't use the help chat still.

That's just my opinion.

08-23-2011 at 3:55 PM
A trial period for it might work...but it has been brought up before and still not brought into play. I'm afraid that newbies would then spread their questions between 2 chats then instead of 1 and it would be too much for the NHs to keep up with :/

08-23-2011 at 3:55 PM
Not Chat B, since that is where people are told to hold Riddles and such. Maybe just make a whole new chat? But I really don't support. They'll just have to be patient with the Issue Hub.

Good Idea a question can get answered quickly and you wouldn't have to wait...I know I used to hate waiting for mine to get answered...
